Meeting Wrapup January 26

We had a decent turnout today, for our first meeting of the year 2006. Jason, our faculty sponsor, was iSighted in and we tried out a bunch of app demos. Before I forget, make sure you subscribe to our iCal at http://ntaug.org/cal/North%20Texas%20Apple%20User%20Group.ics by url. Open iCal, go to Calendar->Subscribe, and paste in the url to make sure you get the latest updates. If you just download the calendar, you’ll get a snapshot as it exists right now.

Here are the things we discussed today:

  • Coconut Battery to see how far your laptop battery has degraded over time (mine’s at 38% after two years)
  • MenuMeters – a little app that adds an icon to the menu bar that can graph useful things like network usage or cpu usage.
  • PowerBoost, an app that lets G4 Macs host a multi-way video chat. Kinda works, but be sure to close other apps, especially any running h264 videos.
  • Ray’s “Wake me Up” script for use with iCal, which we haven’t gotten online yet.

Photos are also up at ntaug.org/photos/v/20060126-meeting/ - if you have any photos you’d like to add, shoot me an email at tim@timhatch.com and we’ll get you set up with an account for Gallery.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 9.

First Meeting of 2006

We’ve got a meeting scheduled for this Thursday (i.e. tomorrow), January 26th.

You are invited to NTAUG’s first meeting of the Spring 2006 semester!

Time and Place

The meeting will begin at 5:30pm and last no later than 7:30pm. The meeting is held in Terrill Hall room 121. If you are not familiar with the building, the following link will help you locate our meeting: http://www.unt.edu/pais/map/campusmap.htm#th. Enter through the South entrance. If you cannot attend the whole meeting, we understand.

What’s Happening

The first meeting will provide a general overview of what NTAUG actually does, and plans to do…in theory at least. We will introduce how to stay informed with the happenings of the group and how to get involved. We’ll also discuss our new version of our meetings, using Apple iTunes’ vCasts!

This is the perfect time to get connected with other Apple users around campus. The people you meet will likely turn out to be who you turn to when you have that last minute question or want to know how to use iLife, Final Cut, your iPod, etc.. to full capacity. Come solo, bring a friend (or pass this along to one), but most importantly, join us and be part of another great NTAUG year!

We look forward to seeing you there!
